1. Preparation

Check your qualifications meet the entry criteria:

Optional: School Experience

You do not need school experience to apply for teacher training, but it can help strengthen your personal statement and get an insight into teacher training with North West London Train to Teach.

2. Applying

All applications for our SCITT courses are processed by DfE Apply. You will need to have all your personal information, qualification details and work history to hand to complete the application.

You will also need to write a succinct and compelling supporting statement which includes:

  • Your reason(s) for wanting to teach
  • Evidence that you understand the rewards and challenges of teaching
  • Details of your previous education and how you have benefitted form it
  • Any other work with young people, such as helping with a youth club, working at a summer camp of running a sports team
  • The range of relevant abilities and skills you can bring to teaching, for example, practical experience, managing people
  • Working with or leading a team, and communication skills
  • Whether you’ve taken part in the school experience programme or similar (see above)

More advice on writing your personal statement can be found here by the DfE.

3. References

Your reference will tell us about your qualities and abilities, so it’s important they know you well. You will be asked to name two referees.

4. What next? Interview Stage

Successful candidates will be sent details of the interview process to ensure they are well-prepared.

Interviews will take place either at Wembley Multi-Academy Trust (our training hub), or at a SCITT partner school.

In order to get to know you as well as possible on the day, we invite you to take part in a range of interview ‘activities’. We hope these experiences give you the opportunity to share your passion for teaching, as well as giving us an insight into the experiences you have had prior to the course.

Although the interview day is busy, we offer a warm welcome and put you at your ease. We recognise that many candidates are career-changers, or are returning to work from a break not having interviewed for some time. Remember that this opportunity is equally a chance for you to get to know us.
