Teachers are the foundation of the education system – there are no great schools without great teachers. Teachers deserve high quality support throughout their careers, particularly in those first years of teaching when the learning curve is steepest.

Early Career Framework 2019

The Induction Tutor’s role is crucial to the success of the ECTs and Mentors.

Please visit the tab ‘How to register your ECTs and Mentors’ for first steps.

The role of the Induction Tutor

Induction tutors…

  • ensure conditions in school enable the implementation of the Early Career Framework programme, including the reduction in timetable for ECTs and the time Mentors need to fulfil their role as well as the opportunity to attend clinics and conferences
  • use Steplab, our online platform, to ensure mentors are assigned to coaches
  • support mentors and teachers to engage meaningfully with the programme
  • track and monitor the quality of instructional coaching taking place between mentor and teacher by observing this in mentor meetings
  • track and monitor the engagement of mentors and teachers on the programme weekly using Steplab’s ‘Lead’ tab

What is engagement?

Every week, an ECT1 should do one module of Steplab study.

Every fortnight, an ECT2 should do one module of Steplab study.

Every week, an ECT1 should be observed and receive instructional coaching in a feedback session.

Every fortnight, an ECT2 should be observed and receive instructional coaching in a feedback session.

As an Induction Tutor, you can use Steplab to see what percentage of your Mentors and ECTs are engaging with the programme – have a look today!

What support is there for Induction Tutors?

Induction Tutors are offered the opportunity to attend events including the Induction Tutor Launch events and Induction Tutor Steplab training events online. There are Steplab training sessions every term delivered by Ambition. Get in touch with us at ecf@northwestlondontsh.org.uk for more information.
